What would you say are the main aspects for starting and running a successful business?
Consistency and discipline over time. Most people want to focus on doing the big things and getting quick results, but real success in business comes from doing the small things, consistently over time. Most people quit too soon.
What exactly is NLP? What inspires you to learn NLP
Neuro linguistic Programming. Neuro- the human nervous system. Linguistic – language. How you label your world, how you communicate with others and how you communicate with yourself (the language of the mind). Programming- behaviour. How you either get the results you want, or you don’t.Simply put, it’s the study of excellence.I was inspired to learn it after I completely burnt out in my previous business in the fitness industry. After my doctor told me I had to dramatically cut back my hours of work to only 3 days per week and 4 hours per day. And I couldn’t workout myself anymore while my body recovered. I lost my income, my identity, andI felt lost. I found myself depressed and full of anxiety. I came across a hypnotherapist at an event, and asked if he could help me. He introduced me to NLP, Hypnotherapy and Time Line Therapy®. I saw such a rapid change in myself that I knew I had to learn it. And then I decided I want to train others as well and went all the way through to being a trainer.
Tell us about your life journey, before and after learning NLP?
Before NLP I struggled with anxiety and depression. I lacked confidence and self esteem. I felt like I was destined for more, but I felt so much fear about everything, that I couldn’t move forward. After NLP- I feel unstoppable. I no longer have depression or anxiety. I feel confident and resourceful. I’m no longer the person hiding at the back of the room, instead I’m the person commanding the room. I feel in charge of my life and future.
What additional skills besides coaching do you bring into play?
Hypnotherapy and Time Line Therapy®. I’m currently studying Spiral Dynamics to bring a new element into my coaching work.
As a society, how do you think we can help people who are dealing with anxiety and depression?
By being kind, and empathetic. By learning how to feel and understand our feelings and how they can connect us with others instead of being afraid of them. By learning how to communicate effectively. By accepting that everyone has a different model of the world, and seeking to understand that rather than to “be right”.
What strong piece of advice would you give to anybody who is dealing with anxiety and depression?
They’re not a life sentence and you can get better. We have been given the most incredible device for creating change, the human nervous system. And you can learn how to think differently and you can overcome anxiety and depression.
What are your goals for 2021?
To double my revenue.
